Te Pani Trust – stone sculpture studio

Te Pani Trust is a vibrant limestone carving workshop/gallery space in the heart of Christchurch’s seaside New Brighton. Our studio makes limestone carving accessible to those from all walks of life, either as creators or appreciators. It has evolved from a roadside sand-dune collection of carvings into a lively workshop/gallery. Many of our tutors and carvers are of Māori and Pasifika heritage, which brings a truly Aotearoa/South Pacific flavour to the works we create.

Te Pani offers public limestone carving classes and we have specialised services for those who have experienced disadvantage due to social circumstance or disability. We currently run classes for social agencies, families and schools.

We have a wide range of gorgeous stone sculptures for sale on site, and most days you can see the carvers at work. By purchasing a one-off artwork from our studio, you are contributing to the livelihood of New Zealand’s precious carvers.

We offer travellers the unique opportunity to make an original piece of kiwi art to take home with them. We also have bone carvings to purchase.

Our team of experienced carvers means we are able to contract for large public works for architects, landscape designers, government departments and businesses.
